Have You Ever Wondered...

what $800 worth of groceries looks like?? Yep, This is what it looks like, and then some :) I swear there is healthy food in these bags too! Since Scott gets paid once a month and I just quit my job, we thought we would give the once a month grocery shopping a try. This last Saturday, we cleaned out the car to make room for $350 worth of groceries. After 2 and a half long hours, we had boxes of cereal, loves of bread, a basket-full of cans (who needs the Easter Bunny), pasta, frozen, fresh, meat, deli and a few extras like a new box of h.e. laundry soap (that post will follow soon), then headed to the check-out line with 3, yes 3, overflowing baskets. Unlike shopping at the mall, Scott likes to grocery shop with me. He enjoys spending his money on practical things, like deli olives and crab dip (we are enablers to our weight problems). So the origianl plan was $350, but when the total came to just under $800, we just looked at each other, smiled, and handed over our coupons, STACKS of coupons anticipating what the REAL totoal would be. With our 10% in Kroger savings and all our coupons, our total came to about $450! I bet you were freaking out about the $800 thing huh? Yep, I am a grocery coupon queen -just another thing I do. So for the rest of the month, if all goes as planned, I should only make trips to the grocery store for milk, eggs and produce.

teach me, o wise one.
where do you get your coupons from? and what's with the 10% kroger savings?

since scott works for kroger, we get a 10% discount on store brands, except for milk, meat and deli. we get the sunday coupons and i save the the booklets for a few months, just going through and clipping as needed, meaning i wait for sales, then use coupons to boost the sale. it takes about 3 hours of planning to do a shopping trip like we did, but hey, i figure i was paid over $100 an hour for my careful, stratigic planning abilities :)
