Rendezvous!!

What a GREAT day for a 4th grade outdoor field trip!! All the 4th graders in the school district participated in this HUGE event. The students were all bussed to a nearby Jr. High where they were all unloaded. Taking place out on the grassy field, there were about 35 centers set up and about 4000 total students, (all 4th graders- WOW!) I took the day off to spend the day with Madisen on her field trip. It was such a fun time learning about and having some hands on with Idaho History. The kids were able to pan for gold, Madisen actually found a few slivers she got to keep. There was a huge cannon going off every 30 minutes, I think the ringing in my ears is starting to subside. The kids learned the importance of loading a wagon with needed supplies, but without straining the oxen. We saw lots of handmade wooden and sewn children's toys. They learned about the different furs of animals. There was so much to see, we couldn't even go to all of the centers. A fun one for the kids was the TRADING POST. The kids made wall-paper beads last month, and based on how many they made, is how much money they had to spend at the trading post. Madisen ended up with $40 (all play money of course). She had so much fun going in and out of line, buying her little handmade trinkets that other students in the district had made. I'm not sure what the temp was up to yesterday, but after being out in the sun all day, I'm pretty crisp. I even wore a huge hat and lots of sunscreen for protection. We wrapped up the event about 2pm and the kids were all bussed back to school. I'm glad I was able to spend the time with her, we had a great day!! FYI, the Idaho History Team goes to competition this Tuesday (May 22). Madisen has been preparing with this team for almost the whole school year and she is ready!! There are 4th grade teams district wide that will compete, so it is a HUGE thing she has been working on. If you have a few minutes, please send her a little note!!

It sounds like you had a great time with your daughter at the rendezvous! I can't wait to hear how Madison did at the history bee today. We missed you on our field trip, but I know it was more important being with your daughter.
