Was it the HAT, or was it the SWIMMING?

So I took Madisen and Makenah in to get hair cuts the other yesterday and Makenah wanted to go first. She had planned on this very cute cut and I was excited for her. As Amy (our hair girl) began to part Makenah's hair, she said those dreaded words to me, "Can you come here for a minute". I just had this feeling and this is what it looked like to me: After the initial shock, Amy told me that she could have gotten it from swimming or from passing around that kid's hat at Makenah's party. The good thing (if you could call it that) is that they were still just eggs, and we had about 24-48 hours before they would hatch. Amy then checked Madisen and Dalton, and they were fine. Madisen ended up with a nice haircut :). We hit Walgreens on the way home and bought everything I needed (and a little more cause I was a bit grossed out). I hurried over to a friends for a photo shoot (my first one), then came home to get to work. I can't believe we have made it 14 years without ever getting this stuff. It took me 3 hours to comb through Makenah's hair once I used the RID shampoo. I am glad that there were only eggs and NO lice. I have since cleaned out the van and sprayed it down with the lice spray, along with the carpet and anywhere else that could remotely have a possible little egg. Makenah is vacuming her room as I type and her bedding is all in the wash. We still have quite a bit of work to do for the rest of the day to make sure we are "pest" free. I used to think that lice was something that only "unclean" people could get, like a poor person's thing. After working at the school, I now know better. Lice don't care where they lay their eggs. They don't care how nice or how clean your house is (though it is easier for them to breed in an unclean, untreated area), they prefer to lay their ugly little eggs on clean-product free hair. They can live in a swimming pool for a while and attach themselves at any opportunity in the water. They can crawl from one coat to another on a coat rack, and of course they can spread if you share a brush OR A HAT (Makenah was 3 for 3)! They are disgusting and they are a pain to exterminate. Hopefully, this will be our only episode E.V.E.R because they are disgusting and I have better things to do!!

I am so sorry to hear about your lice or eggs. Anyway, I dread those like you can't imagine. I am trying to imagine combing trough my daughters long african texture hair with that little comb. Good luck!!!

Aww, that sucks. :( My best friend's daughter had lice that they couldn't get rid of for the longest time. They kept treating it, combing, treating, combing... it was awful. I hope one treatment did the trick for you guys!

Oh, I feel for you. Years back, I had to help my best friend when her kids (she has 4) all got lice. We cleaned, washed heads, sprayed, washed all the bedding, vaccuumed, everything and we were exhausted when we were done. Oh, she did her and her hubby's hair too just in case. A few weeks later, what do we find?? Lice again! We had to repeat the whole ordeal over again.

You will never believe where these kids kept getting lice from? The neighbor across the street had a pet goat that the kids would go pet everyday and come to find out the goat was covered in lice! Ewwww! Luckily, my friend was moving to another house an area so the timing couldn't have been more perfect. Take care!

Okay, I am sitting here reading this and my head itches just thinking about it. Glad you are an experienced liced get-ridder. Just in case.

Cari - I'm a teacher and whenever we'd talk about lice in college, you would look around and everyone would start itching their heads. hehe!

Sorry about the lice. What a PITA! I hope it was the hat. That way no one will get it from the pool again. Can they treat the pool for lice?

I am now scratching my own head like a crazy woman. As a former high school teacher I have a crazy LICE phobia! I would flip and and start scratching like a crazy woman as soon as I would get word when one of my students were sent home with LICE! I am so sorry to hear that this happened to you but it goes to show that LICE does happen to good people...thank GOD they were just eggs!

My kids got lice two years ago. It was a huge pain to get rid of!

Now, since the kids are in school and I work in the school, I'm always checkin' heads...just in case.

I'm glad you talked about dispelling the truth about who lice attach themselves to. They undiscriminating, that's for sure!
