National Fire Safety Week...
This past Saturday, our local Home Depot kicked off the start of National Fire Safety Week. I actually knew about this week, and even ordered a shirt to wear at my events for the next few weeks. When I worked in Dalton's class on Friday, I did the Friday folders for the students, and saw a flyer that went home to each family. I immediately started brain storming about how I could get involved last minute. Earlier in the week, I stopped by a few local firestations to see if I could get some stickers or information to put on my table for upcoming events. No luck. After seeing the flyer though, I called Home Depot and told them I would like to promote candle safety. The manager said that would be fine as long as I was not promoting a business. I told him I was an Independent Consultant for a wickless candle company, and would like to attatch a business card to my fliers about candle safety. The manager told me that should be fine :) I was so excited. I went to Office Depot and had about 900 copies made of the flyer I wanted to hand out. I had some extras made for my upcoming events. Anyway, when I got there I pulled out my camera and started shooting pictures. It was so fun. I actually left Dalton at home, and after I saw how the whole set up was done, I knew he would have a great time there with me. What 8-year-old wouldn't want an unlimited amount of FREE cotton candy, FREE hot dogs, and FREE wooden kits to assemble. I called my friend, Cari, and her family was coming over for the activity, so they stopped by and picked up Dalton for me. Scott had to work this last weekend. Dalton was able to go in the "smoke house" 5 times, and made a firetruck and birdhouse. I was able to get some information out to the public, introduce the wickless products to the local fire department (which they loved), and had a fun time with Dalton too.
Just some random shots (Home Depot will be using some of these for thier promos):

looks like it was a great time and a productive event! I'm so glad you were able to get in on it at the last minute. Look at all the cotton candy....sticky icky good!
Great idea! I'm sure you'll see the rewards of this in the near future. I need to call you about the open house we are doing again this year.
Wow! What a great event! Did they do this at all Home Depot's?
what a great idea! Did you get many referrals or buyers from it?
