Flashback Friday :)

So after reading Pioneer Woman's post today, it brought back a hair memory. Back in the day, when I was 13 and SO wise and SO cool, it was in fashion to have a mohawk. Don't ask me why, but the cool kids had mohawks. Some shaved their heads to really show the mohawk off, while others just had a peek-a-boo mohawk that sprouted out of the top of their head, kind of like those little egg shell heads that sprouts wheat grass. Anyway, I really liked the peek-a-boo mohawk look. It was the best of both worlds. THAT look allowed you to have your cake and eat it too. A nice hairstyle or a perm (the other fashionable way to wear your hair), and just the mohawk coming through. I thought it looked very cool and I knew I could never talk my guardian into letting me have one (yep, at the time I had a guardian -long story). I came up with a plan. I had heard of people getting perms where the perm solution was on way too long and it fried the hair, causing the strands to break. I asked if I could get a perm, a spiral perm of course(this was the 80's afterall). My guardian thought that would be cute, and found a family member willing to give me a perm. The perm turned out all right, however, my style was not complete yet. I wanted to fit in and be one of the "cool" kids, and a perm was just not enough. A few days after getting my perm, I went to work cutting about 20 hairs a day on top of my head to make my mohawk take shape. By the end of the week, I had the style of my 13-year-old, 7th grade dreams. All the adults in my life just thought my mohawk was attributed to a BAD perm. I didn't fit in with the "cool" kids, but it was cool to feel like a 13-year-old rebel.

hahaha well I was too little to remember that, but it's a good story. I do remember cutting my own hair once. I'm sure you remember that. :) Btw, I love and miss you ooodles too!

That is funny stuff! I love how we all have hair styles we identify with.

You rebel you! hehe! That was too funny. I got a perm with I was 13. It was terrible!

I also read the pioneer woman blog. I don't think I actually have any of those hair stories, but I am really trying to figure out what a perm and a mohawk combo would look like! WOW!
