"Hell Week" (aka: band camp)!

July and August were very busy months with 3 weeks of band camp for Makenah. The first week (the last week in July), band camp went from 9 to noon (not too bad). The first week of August, band camp went from 9 to 5. Makenah has made the switch from flute to vibraphone, and seems to get a bit frustrated with her new instrument. I think she would be fine, but one of the teachers is more of a drill sergeant, and if they mess up, are late, talk back, or have bad attitudes, they run or do push-ups. I know this is helping her to build a relationship as a team (and it's REALLY good for her), but to her credit, it doesn't make her understand or learn the notes any faster. OH WELL for her. The third week of band camp was "hell week". I think she came home twice crying because she was exhausted and her coping skills were GONE! They were going from 8 in the morning until 9 at night. She learned a lot, but was so tired (and a bit sunburned). The last day of camp, they finished up about 5 in the evening and had a parent show. It was so fun to watch what they had learned in only a short amount of time (of course for Makenah, it wasn't so short at all). When the parent show was over, she came home and ate dinner, then headed out for a swim party for all the band members. With three children, welcome to our life for the next 10 years.

I had checked my daughter-in-law's blog and clicked on a response someone made, which led me to another interesting blog, which led me to another and another and so on. You know what I mean. Eventually I somehow ended up reading yours. I had to comment because things on yours brought back memories raising my kids. Cub Scouts and Band Camp. I was a den leader when my son was in in scouts. He made it to Arrow of Light. Both kids were involved in band and did the exhausting band camp thing with parade and field show competitions during the fall. It was a busy life for us then. I kind of miss that too. Enjoyed your blog very much.
